🎨 How to color it

Color the pumpkin ribs in burnt orange, the sugar skull flowers in marigold and teal, the curling leaves in olive green, and the tiny skull ornaments in soft ivory. Use sharp colored pencils for the narrow vine curls, teeth, dots, and stepped cheek patterns, working from the center face outward so your hand does not smudge the details. Try a twilight-to-midnight blue blend behind the top flourishes so the orange pumpkin and ivory skull shapes glow like lantern light.

Every evening, Corvin listened to the mosaic greenhouse settle: drip, tick, leaf-sigh, with warm wax breathing through his carved teeth. He wanted to keep that hush unbroken until the first pale stripe touched the glass roof. Until one day, a thin humming came from above his brow, where only his curly stem and painted vines should have been.

Because of that, Corvin held his glow still, and the humming became three notes, sweet as rain on tile. Because of that, the sleeping seed trays trembled; marigold sprouts lifted their heads, but the old night moths banged against the panes, confused by music without a singer. Corvin’s flame flickered small. “I can answer,” he whispered, though his voice felt like a pebble in his mouth.

Finally, he tipped his stem toward the sound and sang one low note. A hidden seed pod split open in the stem’s shadow, releasing tiny silver seeds that chimed as they fell into the soil. By dawn, the greenhouse was quiet again—drip, tick, leaf-sigh—and if you trace the curls above Corvin’s brow, you may find where the first brave hum began.
