🎨 How to color it

Color the daisy petals creamy white with pale butter shadows, the clustered center golden ocher, and the sweeping art nouveau leaves in deep sage, olive, and blue-green. Use sharp colored pencils for the thin inner lines on the petals and leaves, pulling color along each curve so the scrollwork keeps its graceful movement. Try a warm glow around the daisy head and cooler greens on the surrounding vines, as if the flower is quietly holding the only lamp in the garden.

Behind the velvet flats, Elian kept a brass thimble in his vest pocket, dented at the rim, warm from his thumb. He meant to fill it with glow-pollen from the night glasshouse before the actors discovered the stage daisies had opened too pale for the midnight scene. The corridor smelled of dust, oranges, and old paint; each step away from his workbench cost him one more minute before curtain, and one more chance to keep his mother’s thimble safe.

The glasshouse wings breathed damp heat. A vine snagged his cuff, a bud tapped the pane like a secret knock, and the thimble slipped into a daisy’s crowded gold center. Elian reached in, pricked his finger, and laughed before he could help it: the tiny cup was not lost but brimming, every dent bright with pollen. He carried it back uncovered. By the time he touched the first pale bloom, the actors, carpenters, and even the stern ticket woman were leaning close, passing the shine from petal to petal, because some joys refuse to stay pocket-sized. Long after the curtain rose, his thumb still remembered the warm dented rim.
