🎨 How to color it

Layer the jack-o’-lantern in burnt orange and deep amber, make the curling vines olive green, color the broad leaves russet and sage, and give the crescent moon a pale ivory glow. Under the veranda trellis, Isolde set herself a private task: count one hundred star-glints before the candle in her belly sighed low. The night smelled of damp leaves and cooling ironwork. Ninety-nine glimmers answered from between the vine curls, but the hundredth hid beyond the rail. She eased herself over the threshold, scraping one tender rib on the brick, and rolled into the hush where the crescent moon combed silver through the fern tips.

Past the steps, a snail was hauling a bead of moon dew across the path, slow as a held breath. “May I borrow that shine?” Isolde whispered. The snail paused, then tipped the bead into a curled leaf. Isolde carried it back carefully, losing a little wax to the wind, gaining a cool bright dot beneath her stem. When she reached her alcove, she did not count again. She simply waited, and the hundredth star-glint bloomed in the moon dew.
