At the end of the blue hallway, Clover pressed one paw, then another, into her round nap cushion. She wanted the house to stay hushed until the kettle stopped its tiny tick-tick. So she invented Moon-Paws: one soft paw for the moon, one slow breath for each star, no barking until the last count was done.
The cushion smelled like warm cloth and sun from the window. Clover waited through creaks, whispers, and the far plink of a spoon. “Not yet,” she breathed, tucking her nose close. At last, the hush settled all around her, gentle as a blanket. Where her patient paws had rested, a crescent and little stars appeared, bright and calm. Ever since, puppy nap cushions have kept moons and stars to help sleepy pups wait for quiet. Next time you see Clover curled close, can you find the first Moon-Paw?
