🎨 How to color it

Layer golden ochre over the giraffe’s neck and legs, use burnt sienna for the patchwork spots, teal and coral inside the belly spirals, and sage green on the five-leaf sprig. Use sharp colored pencils and rotate the page as you fill the tight curls on the haunches, saving broader marker strokes for the long neck panels. For a crafted zentangle effect, alternate warm and cool colors inside neighboring swirls so the giraffe’s body feels hand-tooled rather than flat.

Every day, Vero hammered copper scraps into small charms beside the basalt gorge, tapping her mother’s dented brass thimble for luck until it rang like a tiny bell. One day, dust swallowed the trail markers, and the caravan’s bells clattered toward the wrong ravine. Because of that, Vero split her half-made necklace, bent each warm piece into flashing arrows, and stitched them to thorn stems with wire pulled by hand. Because of that, sun caught her handiwork from cliff to cliff. Finally, the caravan turned, cheering through grit and wind, while the thimble rang like a tiny bell.
