Under the old shell arch, Cori pressed her flippers to the cool stone and wished to swim through the dark gap beyond it. The water there smelled like rain on rocks, and tiny clicks came from inside. Cori had never gone in alone. Then two round bubbles rolled out, side by side, instead of floating up. One bumped her nose. “Follow softly,” it whispered.
Cori’s belly went flutter-flutter, but she paddled after them. In the dim blue, she found a little crab stuck beneath a fallen shell plate, tapping for help. Cori pushed once, then twice, until the plate lifted with a sandy puff. The crab scurried free and clicked a secret: those two bubbles had been the arch’s ears, sent to find the bravest gentle swimmer. Ever since, when sea turtles see two bubbles rising together, they smile and listen first. Can you spot the listening bubbles near Cori’s face?
