🎨 How to color it

Color the baby sea turtle mint green, the broken eggshells creamy white, the sand pale tan, and the seaweed bright teal. Use chunky crayons for the big shell pieces and sandy hills, then save a sharper green crayon for the wavy seaweed strands. Try a soft blue shadow around the egg to make the tiny turtle’s surprised face feel like a quiet undersea glow.

Every evening, before the moon turned the water silver, Kiri tapped the dull pearl tucked under her chin. Tap-tap. She wanted it to sing, the way her mother said it had sung on the night Kiri’s egg first rocked in the sand.

Until one evening, the pearl stayed colder than a pebble, and Kiri’s shell split with a tiny crack. Because of that, she froze instead of pushing out. Because of that, the other eggs went still too, listening to the reef hum low and soft.

At last, Kiri waited through one more slow wave. The pearl warmed, not loud, but glowing like a held breath. “Now,” whispered Kiri, and she pushed into the blue hush. If you spot her wide eyes, keep the secret of the little pearl that answered tap-tap.
