Every day, Nico zipped along Shell Ridge, swish-swish, brushing bubble trails clear before the crab racers came through. He wanted to be brave enough to lead the morning dash, but the starter horns always made him jump behind a sponge. One day, the horns went blurp instead of BRRRAAP, and the racers wobbled in circles through fizzy water that smelled like salty cucumber.
Because of that, Nico followed the tiniest tick-tick sound across the sand. Because of THAT, he found it coming from a closed scallop shell everyone had used as a seat, not a hiding place. His fins shook, but he tapped it. “Hello in there?” The shell popped open, and a little bubble bell rang clear as a spoon on glass. Nico carried its bright ding to the starting line, and when the crabs shot forward, he stayed right beside them—swish-swish. Next time you spot that shell under Nico, listen for the brave little ding.
