On the warm pottery shelf, Pippa patted a lump of clay. Pat-pat, smooth-smooth. She wanted to make one small cup for evening mint tea, but the plain sides looked too empty under her paws.
A field mouse came in, sneezing flour dust from his whiskers. “Could I rest here?” he squeaked. Pippa rolled a round biscuit beside him and pressed a daisy from her apron into the soft cup. Then she added leaves and dots, paw by careful paw. The clay held every mark. Ever since, teacups have carried little gardens, so a tired guest can feel a meadow while the tea steams.
