Under the silver sliver moon, Pippa rocked on her round pumpkin ribs. Thump-bump! Her curly stem wiggled, and her leaf fluttered like a tiny flag. She wanted to roll her twinkle song all across the pumpkin patch, past the cold grass and the prickly vines. “Come on, night!” she called.

She rolled faster. Stars blinked. Dots of dew flashed. Then three little bats swooped out of the dark with squeaky grins. Instead of flying away, they copied her song: “Thump-bump, twinkle-twirl!” Their wings made a soft flap-flap breeze.
