🎨 How to color it

Color Santa’s suit cranberry red, his starry striped scarf emerald and gold, the pine trees deep green, and the little cabin warm honey brown. Use colored pencils for the scarf’s narrow stripes and star shapes, then switch to broader marker fills for the coat and snowy creek banks. Try a pale blue shadow under each skate curve so the white ice still feels cold and shiny.

Under a sky clicking with hard little snowflakes, Orin tied bells to his skate laces and invented a game: he would follow the first scratch his blade made until it pointed to a secret. The frozen creek smelled like clean iron and pine sap. Santa laughed, arms wide, and joined him, but the wind kept dusting over every mark.

Then Orin’s blade caught a thin blue seam in the ice. Hissss—his skate drew a bright curve that would not vanish. Santa followed it around a bend, past black pines and a dark cabin window, until the line curled into an arrow beside a buried mitten.

“Not a scratch,” Orin whispered. “A message.” Ever since that night, skate lines on North Pole ice have stayed just long enough to guide anyone curious enough to follow, and if you trace the curving marks by Santa’s boots, where do you think they hurry next?
