Every morning, Nico tapped his tiny spiral shell and listened for the first warm plink of sunlight inside it. Then he leaped by the lighthouse, letting the gold sound sparkle over the sleepy boats.
Until one day, fog rolled in thick as wet wool, and the shell stayed quiet. Because of that, the lighthouse keeper rang the bell—bong, bong—but the boats still crept and bumped. Because of that, Nico pressed the shell to his heart and whispered, “Wake up, little light.”
At last, one golden note spilled out, then another, too many for Nico to keep. He sprang high and flung the shining sound across the water. The fog blushed, the sun smiled through, and every window on the shore flashed hello. If you listen to the splash, can you find the joy Nico shared from his tiny spiral shell?
