Every day, Willa tapped along the leaf maze, counting the dash marks that led to the noon snack stump. Tap, tap, pause; tap, tap, pause. The trail smelled like warm grass and mushroom tops, and Willa liked arriving first, before the berry crumbs got sticky.
Until one day, a striped inchworm dropped from an oak leaf and began moving the dashes with his tiny feet. “Try this way,” he said, wiggling three marks into a loop. Because of that, Willa marched in circles past a sleepy ladybug. Because of THAT, two bees followed her and argued about whether circles counted as progress. Willa sat down, folded her feet, and waited while the inchworm giggled himself tired.
Finally, he sneezed—piff!—and the real dash marks rolled back into line. Willa tapped slowly, reached the stump, and saved him one berry crumb anyway, because it was still warm. If you follow the curliest path with your eyes, can you find where Willa first chose tap, tap, pause?
